How to get through intense feelings.

Hi friends! I know, I know, it’s been a while. But #2020, am I right? It has been an intense year for every single one of us.

Can you relate to my current situation?

I got stuck in the routine of wake up, work, watch tv, go to bed. Repeat. All without leaving home!

All I wanted to do was numb out in front of the tv.

My workload at my job had increased significantly and my brain could not handle anything else.

I was burned out from work and from the stress of current events.

I felt like my motivation was non existent and I wanted to hide from everything.

Now my past self would have felt so guilty for feeling this way. For basically putting all my goals on the back burner.

But I decided to try something different this time, I decided to just let myself feel whatever I was feeling.

During this time I realized a lot of important things.

It’s okay to binge on reality tv if that’s all you can handle right now.

It’s okay to have one goal right now: stay safe.

It’s okay to just be happy that you are surviving a pandemic!

It was starting to become obvious that all these “deadlines” and goals I had were all self imposed. All the pressure I felt, yep that was all from my own doing!

I wasn’t giving myself time to just feel the intense weight of reality.

This lead me to realize the absolute best way to get through intense feelings.

Feel the feelings without judgement.

Accept your current reality and be okay with how things are going.

Give yourself compassion for just surviving right now.

Because I am here to tell you that the motivation does come back, the goals resurface, the lighter feelings show up again.

And this is such an important metaphor for life too. Once you learn to ride the wave of life, things get a whole lot easier.

I am sitting here with my newfound hope for the future that this too shall pass.

You got this. We got this.
