Is people-pleasing affecting your food choices?
When I first ventured down the path of healthy eating, I was limiting myself from really achieving my goals because of one big stumbling block, people-pleasing. Putting way too much stock into what others thought of my food choices.I'm sure you have can relate to this too. Fear of modifying an order at a restaurant because you don't want to be "that person."Or maybe you are at a friend's party and eat something you know isn't the best choice for you because you don't want to be singled out.But I am here to tell you something. Everyone is way too concerned with themselves to worry about your plate. And if they do call you out, that is more a reflection on what they believe to be true for themselves.Or maybe you don't want to feel like you are depriving yourself so you decide to forgo everything you are prioritizing for yourself. When we approach food from a place of fear or judgement, many times this leads us to make unhealthy decisions or eat way too much and regret it later.I'm not saying you need to be so strict with yourself that you stay alone in your apartment for fear of food choices. But deciding that the way you choose to fuel yourself is important to you and honoring it no matter what the situation is.In fact, that is the highest form of self awareness you can have. By knowing what is best for ourselves and standing behind it. Being an accomplice to your body and your health and deciding that you want to continue to feel good. And something starts to shift the moment you decide to honor yourself. You are able to say "no thanks" to food without making it a big deal. You are able to keep your eyes on your own plate and no longer judge what everyone else chooses to eat.In fact, I'd bet that you will become a role model for other people around you. They will want to learn more about your way of eating and they will be empowered to make change in their own life.So as you moved forward in life and become more in tune with your needs, be sure that this all too common fear doesn't stop you from reaching your full potential.
